Relaxation Face Mask Warning
There are certain situations where you should not use Heat Therapy. If the affected area is bruised, swollen, or both, Cold Therapy may be the better option. You should also avoid applying Heat Therapy to an area with an open wound. People with certain pre-existing conditions face a higher risk of burns or complications from heat application and should not use Heat Therapy.
These conditions include, but are not limited to, diabetes, dermatitis, vascular disease, deep vein thrombosis, and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Individuals with heart disease or hypertension should consult a doctor before using Heat Therapy. People with sensory disorders that reduce their ability to feel sensations should not use Heat or Cold Therapy at home, as they may not notice if damage occurs.
This includes, but is not limited to, diabetes, which can cause nerve damage and reduced sensitivity. Do not use Cold Therapy on stiff muscles or joints, and avoid Cold Therapy if you have poor circulation. If you feel unsure about whether to use Heat or Cold Therapy, or if you have concerns about your condition, seek medical advice.
